The word "Home" requires a personal journey of a narrative with physical space, usually over a longer period of time. This personal narrative subjectively legitimises some extremely important traits and processes, associated with the notion of home: identity and the feeling of belonging, relational and emotional mechanisms. In this context, "home" becomes that place detached from the entire universe, perhaps even the centre of the personal universe.
The idea that, for a few hours, the space in the attic of the Faculty of Arts is home for all of us, both students and teachers, made us think of it as a quilt, our own story of what we account for as a miniature community of artists in our city. For this project, each of us will bring a patch of fabric measuring 30x30 cm, which we will paint, draw, print, sewed or "write" on, in different mediums what HOME means to us. And since we each have a different idea of what "home" is, this whole endeavor will be rendered into a patchwork of ideas and feelings sewn together. For Lelia Rus Pîrvan, the place where she discovered God is the starry sky above the Sahara desert, while Sînziana Romanescu has in memory the Dacian civilization and the fortress of Sarmisegetuza as a matrix of the Romanian people, the archeological site of Pacui is also the starting point of Alina Cristea's work. For Maria Teodorescu is the emotional reproduction of the urban maps of the places where she lived in, while for Alexandru Șerbănescu, "home" is represented by this multicultural city with many names, enriched by people of different ethnicities, religions and languages. Ovidiu Felipov uses the symbol of the city, the statue of Ovidius, as a starting point in his work, while the sea shels from our city are an opportunity to find ancient symbols for Mina Tömpe as well. For Eugen Bădescu, the water of the old Pontus Euxinus is an opportunity for simplification and meditation. For Darea Diana Mihaela, as for Neculai Aurelia, Ichim Carmen Stefan, Negrilă Anca or Păduraru Ștefan, the house is synonymous with the past and traditions, while for Stere Luiza Mirela or Ene Isai Cătălina Emanuela, the human or animal face the imprint of the place. For Val Ana Cristiana, Locus is home, with the smell of sea and shellfish, and for Ene Miana Crina the idea of Locus is linked to the idea of growth, expansion. "Where thou art, that is home." Mălina Crăciun reminds us, while the idea that each civilization is nothing more than a cornerstone that forms the great whole of the history of humanity whose mainstay is man, guides Andreea Ifrim in her approach. At Florentin Sîrbu, the Locus is also related to the idea of history and the past, while the central image is that of an armour, meant to defend the body, the interior. Similarly, for Drenea Alina, the subject is the memory of the Geto-Dacians, the imprint that the ancestors left, the symbolic dowry that remains the legacy of the first inhabitants of the Dobrogean space. For Babagean Turan, the symbol is the key to deciphering an image and through this, the idea of Locus gets the appearance of a feast, of a table dressed, while for Daniel Zaporojan Adamescu, the plant universe is the engine of starting the artistic imaginery. For Lidia Panait the blue of the sky and the sea is the source of inspiration, while for Crina Dragoi the meeting places of people, but also the personal stories represent the idea of Locus. For the guest of Turkey, Ozlem Kaya, nature is the place where our pretense, birth and becoming as human beings or as artists take place. Raluca Coteanu, Irina Hulpac, Lidia Corladi, Maria Seceleanu and Larisa Lungu, they all start from the idea of symbol and archetype in their works, while Viorel Ungureanu creates a wonderful ancient portrait on canvas, inspired by the documentary visit to the Archeology Museum in Constanța. For Alexandra Caruțiu Locus is the last place visited, in South America and also her self-portrait. The notes from memories are the opportunity for Gabriel Pintilie to evoke childhood, while for Mihaela Ciustea, the pieces of her childhood are the most affective recall of the outer space. Ioana Predescu is using mandala symbols to suggest the way forward and Liliana Cornila is using them as well for her textile patch. In Monica Rus's works, the house is a nest, the superimposed transparent layers referring to the idea of music of soul and covering, while for Diana Munteanu, the house is a woman's body and for Andreea Rădulescu, the image of LOCUS is her mother's face. Finally, Paul Nasaudeanu reminds us through his work that the connection between the shore and the sea is made by the viewer through the soul.
